SCENT GUIDE

How to choose a perfume oil you’ll actually wear.

Buying fragrance online is tricky because you can’t smell it first. Here’s how we’d choose if we were in your place.

02 WHERE YOU’LL WEAR IT

Office, wedding or everyday?

For work and long days indoors, choose something softer like musk or a light floral, and use less. For weddings, festive evenings and winter nights, richer oud, amber and saffron feel right at home.

03 OIL VS SPRAY

Know how perfume oil behaves.

Perfume oil sits closer to you than a spray. People notice it when they’re near you, not across the room. Many find that’s exactly the point. If you’ve only ever used sprays, read Perfume Oil vs Spray Perfume first.

04 WARM FAMILIES

Torn between oud and amber?

Oud is deeper and drier, with wood and smoke. Amber is rounder and softer. Our oud vs amber guide explains the difference properly.

05 TEST FIRST

When in doubt, try a few.

Smelling a perfume on your own skin over a few hours tells you more than any description. The Discovery Attar Set exists for exactly this. Wear one each day and see which one you keep reaching for.

06 GIFTING

Buying for someone else?

Go by their personality, not a guess at a specific note. Someone understated may love musk; someone who loves dressing up may enjoy oud or saffron. Our gifting guide has more ideas, and our gift sets come ready to give.

CHOOSING A SCENT

Common questions.

I have no idea what I like. Where do I start?

Start with the discovery set, or pick one direction you’re drawn to: woody, warm, soft or floral. Try two or three scents on skin rather than deciding from a list of notes.

Is oud always very strong?

No. Oud is a type of smell, not a strength level. Blended with rose, musk or amber, it can be smooth enough for everyday wear.

How much perfume oil should I apply?

Start with one light dab on each wrist and the side of the neck. Wait 20 minutes before adding more. Our application guide covers the rest.

Which scent is good for Indian summers?

Musk and lighter florals feel easiest in the heat. If you love oud or amber, keep wearing them, just apply less.
